The Garden of Eden

The original tourist attraction of Lucas, KS, is The Garden of Eden, also known as the Cabin Home. S.P. Dinsmoor, a Civil War veteran, designed and built a house, garden scupltures and mausoleum largely out of concrete.

What looks like wood beams is entirely concrete.

Dinsmoor wanted to be entombed with his first wife in the mausoleum he built in the yard. It was his wish to one day have visitors view his body through a glass coffin.

The mausoleum: Dinsmoor got his wish!

This was one of the few parts of the house not made with concrete. Notice anything odd about the stair rail?

How he did it

  1. Julie, this is the place I had talked about to you earlier this summer. I am glad you are poking a round there. Weird and neat at the same time. Just your kind of place. Ha! Jeanie
